About Hazel Park

Hazel Park is a compact city of about 2.5 square miles pressed against Detroit's northern border at 8 Mile Road. Long a working-class suburb of post-war ranch homes, it has become one of the Woodward corridor's most interesting small-city stories as independent restaurants, breweries and coffee shops have opened along John R Road and 9 Mile.

The city keeps a strong neighborhood identity: block parties, the Memorial Day festival, and a farmers market draw locals out through the warmer months. Hazel Park Raceway defined the city for generations, and its redevelopment has brought new employers and momentum to the 10 Mile corridor.

Its location is the practical selling point. Hazel Park touches Ferndale, Madison Heights, Warren and Detroit, putting most of metro Detroit within a 20-minute drive — which is part of why young households keep moving in.
